World table tennis ranking in 2022

Disclaimer: This is not a true ladder, which means the higher-ranked player is not really stronger than the lower-ranked player. You should consider this as the ladder for the most active player in the WTT competitions.

The purpose of world table tennis ranking?

Hello. What do you think about the current ITTF world ranking?

A player asked, “hi coach, can you make the video about the WTT rankings.”

The WTT ranking is not a true ranking ladder

I have explained you in a previous video. The WTT world ranking has changed. It’s not a true ranking ladder.

You can search for “table tennis ranking pingsunday”. I have explained all of this.

In general, the current WTT world ranking is not the true ranking because it failed to predict the stronger player.

You should consider the WTT world ranking, as the ladder for the active world tour player.

Why this change?

It’s all about the profit. Like in tennis, the new ranking system will force the player to pay more and participate more in the WTT competition. If you don’t play enough, then your ranking will drop quickly.

This is very stressful for players, but it’s better for the WTT for profit, and financial income.

Before 2018

Before 2018, the ITTF world ranking is rather accurate. It works based on the ELO system.

The player who has 100 points higher, will have a higher chance (3 chances to win over 4 matches) to win.

After 2018

The ranking point is ridiculous. I have never seen a player who has a double point. Like Fan Zhendong who has nearly double ranking points of Ma Long. These ranking points will fail to predict a stronger player. If you use this ranking point, then Fan Zhendong will have 99.9% winning rate over Ma Long. Which is ridiculous.

Alexis Lebrun from France is the number 1 Junior table tennis player. He improved very fast.

His little brother, Félix Lebrun is ranked as the number 7 Junior player in the world.

Tomokazu Harimoto is the number 2 Junior player. Tomokazu Harimoto is born on 27 June 2003 (age 19), so he is a junior player.
But he didn’t compete in the junior tournament anymore. That’s why he is now ranked in the senior world ranking.

Conclusion

Anyway, I have made full research about the new ranking points of ITTF. You can read it on my blog pingsunday.com.

Don’t consider the WTT World ranking a true ladder to predict who is a stronger player. It’s just a ranking point, to determine who is more active recently.
