Why do you need to stomp?

There are 3 reasons that you should stomp during the table tennis serve.

Number 1, stomp is the way to return to the ready position.

As I explained in the previous article, you need to stomp with your left foot and rotate the body at the same time. By doing this, you will go to the ready stance quicker.

Here is another example of Fan Zhendong. He also stomps with his left foot.

Number 2, stomp is the way to hide the information of your serve.

There are 2 ways to capture the information in table tennis. The information here that you need is the spin in your serve. The first way to get the spin is to see. The opponent can see the spin on the ball. Some players can clearly the spinny ball.

The second way to estimate the amount of spin is to hear. An experienced player or a top player can hear the sound when you serve.

For example, “poc”, “poc” is the sound of the high-speed impact, so the table tennis serve is rather spinny.

But when you hear something like “pub”, “pub” this is the sound of a nospin or less spin serve.

So when you stomp, then it is much harder for the opponent to hear the sound of your serve. That’s why almost every professional table tennis players stomp during the serve. They want to hide the information about the amount of spin.

Number 3, to show to everyone that you are the world champion.

(I’m just kidding, hahaha).

How to stomp correctly?

Some players have sent me the footage. I stomp the floor. I do it all the time in my serve. To be honest I don’t know why.

If you stomp by using the right foot then it is wrong.

stomping with the right foot - it is the wrong way

The correct way is to stomp using the left foot and rotate the body to come back to the ready position.
