Scholarship for Shanghai Summer Camp 2020
But first of all, I want to share with you an amazing massage. A player from Germany, who got the scholarship last year – Training Camp in Shanghai 2018, has emailed me.
I was one of the lucky ones to join Summercamp this year.
Like almost every participant, I came across the camp through your channel.
So we decided to make a little thank you video for you ^^
I’m very touched. Thank you a lot for your amazing “thank-you” video. I’m so happy that I can help you to improve your table tennis skills. Such kind of message is the main motivation for me to make more coaching videos.
Practicing with the best Chinese coach in China is a unique opportunity. Enjoy and profit your trip!

What does the training sessions in China look like?
But in general, if you get a chance to train in China. You will see these types of training methods.
A lot of repetition
Yes, in China, they focus a lot of repetition.
They do the same gesture, the same type of stroke again and again. Every player needs to repeat a thousand and a thousand times.
They don’t want just to learn, but they want to master and perfect any type of strokes. Because it takes a lot of time for our brain to learn new techniques. It’s called as “muscle memory”.
So remember, to improve fast:
How to repeat the same training?
In China, they do a lot of multiball practice. This is the fastest way to help your muscle memory. You will learn quickly by focusing on only one technique.
Note, there are about 10 basic techniques that you should learn.
A lot of “shadow training”
What is shadow training in table tennis? Shadow training is practicing without the ball.
And the Chinese coach loves doing this. Why?
Shadow training helps you Focus on the body movement
And lastly, the Chinese coach focuses on doing the “weight transfer” during your shots. Why?
I’ve explained this concept before, this concept is one of the 4 fundamental concepts in Chinese table tennis.
So Weight transfer is the key to improve the power (of your forehand attack) and the consistency of table tennis shots. More consistency means less error, and then your level will improve. More power means the winning percentage of each point increases.
Training with national players
If you are lucky enough, you can see or even play some points with the top Chinese players.
