What is the difference between Hurricane 3 and Hurricane 8 and Tenergy 05? Which one is better? Let’s review it with coach EmRatThich.
I’m extremely interested in trying out the new blade and rubber, and I’ll do so if I have the chance. This time I used Hurricane 8 rubber, which is a little stronger, and the forehand will most probably not be changed for a while.
DHS Hurricane 8 another choice for Hurricane 3
∎ Page Contents ∎
Compared to Hurricane 3, Hurricane 8 (check price 1/ check price 2) has had a relatively similar overall performance.
In terms of feel and speed, Hurricane 8 far outperforms Hurricane 3 in both categories because the sponge of Hurricane 8 is similar to Hurricane 3.

Despite the fact that Hurricane 8 is not as powerful as Hurricane 3, the softness and hardness of the sponge, along with the sticky rubber surface, make it a significant improvement over Hurricane 3. Although not of excellent quality, the service is reliable and consistent.
Hurricane 8 has a more distinct sensation than Hurricane 3. Hurricane 8 is easier to penetrate and has a lower reliance on the adhesive than other compounds.
DHS Hurricane 8 offers a better touch sensation with the ball, is more forgiving, and has a longer dwell time than previous generations.

How we test the DHS Hurricane 8
We mounted both DHS rubbers on the Butterfly Viscaria.

Variation 1: Rubber forehand: DHS Hurricane 8 39° 2.15 mm
Variation 2: DHS Hurricane 3 38° 2.15 mm
Serving test with personal opinion
The biggest advantage of tacky rubber is the serve. You make a very spiny serve with Chinese tacky rubbers.
Hurricane 8 is less tacky than Hurricane 3, however the feel is very clear. Tenergy 05 is not a tacky rubber, however, it can spin the ball easily due to the Tension spring sponge technology.

Compared to Hurricane 3, Hurricane 8 is much softer, and can hold the ball better. Compared to Tenergy 05, DHS Hurricane 3, DHS Hurricane 8 wins.
Notes about the tackiness: (Notes/10 points)
- DHS Hurricane 8: 8 points
- DHS Hurricane 3: 9 points, more tacky surface, so more spin for the serve
- Butterfly Tenergy 05: 7 points, harder to keep the ball short
Topspin comparison
Both Hurricane 3 and Hurricane 8 are really good at topspin, due to the very tacky top sheet.
The sponge of Hurricane 8 is soft and more flexible, so the feeling is rather good.
The tacky surface gives you a lot of spin. The arc is high. So Hurricane 8 is a very good forehand rubber.
Hurricane 3 has a harder sponge, so you need to apply the booster.

Here is my notes for the topspin on the forehand side:
- DHS Hurricane 8: 9 points: very good feeling, high tolerance, spiny and good arc
- DHS Hurricane 3: 7 points: low throw angle, very hard sponge, fast but less spin. You need to apply the booster.
- Tenergy 05: 8 points: Very good hand feeling, high arc, but low threat (speed is not good enough).
